Halal and Kosher products: we want clear labelling- send an email of protest to the UK government.

6th November 2024

Please fill in the form on this page to tell the UK government you want clear labelling so you know if any item you buy is Halal or Kosher certified or not. I don’t think we’ll ever get a ban on Halal and Kosher like there is in certain parts of the world. However by getting a clear label then we can make an informed choice. I am 2nd generation Indian Hindu (non-practising) and it is forbidden for many Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus and Christians to consume any halal or kosher certified item. I am also a vegetarian and sometimes I have felt physically sick when I have found out I’ve consumed a product that is Halal or Kosher certified without my knowing.*

That said in the 1980s the Friends of the Earth produced a list of all those companies using CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) in their aerosols. These chemicals damage the ozone layer. Overnight 50% of such companies stopped. Within weeks the remainder did. It was then very easy to get a ban. If we get clear labelling and a tax then people won’t buy. It will be VERY easy to get a ban.

Some religions insist that any meat that they consume is Halal (Islam) or Kosher (Jews). That means that the animal is alive, its throat is cut and it’s bled to death. In many cases the animal is not stunned and so it feels the full pain of it.

As I said above I am a 2nd generation Indian Hindu (non-practising.) If you don’t know what 2nd generation means, it means that I was born and raised in the UK. I am a vegetarian going on vegan and an animal lover. I can’t force my views on you but please consider this.

Figures released by the Food Standards Agency have revealed a sharp increase in the number of animals being slaughtered in the halal tradition without being pre-stunned. Between April and June 2017 24.4% of sheep and goats were slaughtered in this way, up from 15% in 2013. Similarly, the number of poultry killed without stunning rose from 3% to 18.5% in the same period. Humanists UK is concerned that this dramatic rise is evidence that non-stunned halal meat is being sold, arguably illegally, on the general market to non-Muslim consumers. While most halal meat is pre-stunned, all kosher meat comes from animals that were not pre-stunned. (1)

It is strictly forbidden for someone of Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist background to consume any food item that is halal certified.

This 3 minute 30 second video shows proof of this.

The same applies to many denominations of Christianity.

I object to Halal and Kosher for several reasons and I am sure you do too.

  • The first reason is religious. It's forbidden in Hinduism, Sikhism,Buddhism and many denominations of Chrstianity. Such people could be consuming Halal and Kosher without knowing it.

  • Both Halal and Kosher are absolute barbaric forms of slaughter.
  • Halal certification requires a 2.5% Zakat tax. That tax is not properly regulated. Now in it's purest form Zakat is a beautiful thing. They have to give their time or their money to good causes. I have nothing but the highest respect for people like The Bearded brothers. They are what I call true Islam. With the exception of winning the lottery very few things would please me more than to see a branch of of the Bearded Brothers in every town and city in the UK.

However it is very sad that money can be used for morally questionable purposes because it's not properly regulated and policed. According to the Australian Imam Tawhdi it is highly questionable what they use the money for. I have been told it can be used to fund Jihad which can either mean struggle or other morally questionable things see Imam Tawhidi Live: The Halal Story and Q and A it is highly questionable what they use the money for. I have been told it can be used to fund Jihad which can either mean struggle or other morally questionable things. Click here to see an example.

  • There is no requirement. All they have to do is say Bismallal (thanks to God) before each meal.

I think banning Halal will be practically impossible, however we need clear labelling so people can make an informed choice. However please fill in the form below. By filling it in you will send an email to the Minister of Agriculture asking for clear labelling.. The Labour party have put their support to proper labelling so they can't oppose it.See (1) below.

I forgot to mention that Mohammed Sawar of Yorkshire Poultry says Of course labelling is important. I think consumers have the right to know where the meat they are about to eat came from and how it was slaughtered." So there is support from the Islamic community.(3)

Sadly you’ll have to put your name, email and mailing address on the from. The government will not take your protest seriously otherwise. Your data is kept super safe according to our and the General Data Protection Regulations.

Before filling in the form. Please share to social media.

*I have good Jewish friends and out of respect when we have a meal together we have a vegan meal with no Halal or Kosher certified items. (That said, it's easy for them, they are vegetarians!)
